Dr. Jeppson may take an X-ray as part of your regular dental exam or to diagnose a problem when you come into our office. Digital X-rays may be used to diagnose and plan treatments for a wide variety of issues, including:
- Tooth decay
- Infection and bone loss
- Fractures, cracks or other damage in teeth or existing restorations
- Tumors, cysts and abscesses
- Developmental abnormalities
- Unusual tooth root positioning
- Missing and misaligned teeth
Digital radiography changed the way that dental X-rays are taken, eliminating the need for chemicals to develop film and speeding up the imaging process. A digital X-ray device will use a small sensor to capture images of your teeth and project them to a nearby monitor almost instantly, providing our dentist with a high-quality photo of your oral structures so that we can make a quick and accurate diagnosis prior to providing your care. Digital X-rays are also very safe for use. They produce significantly less radiation than film X-rays — in fact, you are exposed to less radiation from a digital X-ray than you are from the sun in your day-to-day life!
